Life is about enjoyment and living each day fully. Whether we are most happy being surrounded by friends and family, or relaxing in a tropical oasis, we must remember to be happy in life – even if we need to be inspired.
Find joy in the present moment – After all, memories are created by special moments.
Take time to have fun – In a life where we are always busy, don’t forget to take time for yourself. Schedule time during your busy day to read a book, paint a picture, garden, or get a massage. Life will pass by so quickly, that we need to take time to enjoy ourselves.
Read and watch things that inspire you – Who inspires you? Is there a movie that touches your heart that makes you want to be a better person? How about an autobiography of a new hero that you never knew you admired? Take the time to read and listen to others – you might be surprised by what they share.
Spend time outside – Do you like having BBQ and spending time at the beach in the Summer? Or maybe you enjoy hiking in the woods surrounded by the leaves changing for the fall. Whatever you love to do, get outdoors – fresh air does wonders!
Find a way to move your body (that you enjoy) – Now is the time to finally try that Zumba class! Don’t like to move in front of a group of people? Try strapping on some roller blades and explore your neighborhood.
Get out of your comfort zone – This should go back to number 5. Get out of your comfort zone and try something that you wouldn’t normally do! Try that new gym class – who know, you may love it and even make a new friend or two.
Reconnect with an old friend – Don’t feel that just because you haven’t talked in ages that they friendship is dead – nothing feels better than chatting with an old friend and picking right up where you left off.
Make time for the people you love – As much as your mother may annoy you, remember that she won’t be here forever. Spend time with your loved one, listen to them, ask them advice and most of all, thank them for being part of your life.
Make tome to be with yourself – There are times in life where it’s important to rediscover ourselves. Taking a step back away from the hassles of life and learning about ourselves is more valuable than you know.
Be lazy (without the guilt) – It’s OK to have some “me” time. Don’t feel bad because you want to binge your favorite TV show, or leave the laundry to be folded later. Sometimes we need a mental break.
Write down your dreams and goals – Writing down your dreams and goals will mentally make you more aware of what you want to accomplish. When you see what’s on your list, you’re more likely to finish a goal and remember your dreams.
For each negative thought you have, call attention to the bright side – Don’t be so hard on yourself! Life has ups and downs, bumps and turns, but it’s how we face these obstacles with a positive outcome.
Meditate, (or do something to clear your mind) – Nothing feels quite as good as meditating, practicing yoga, breathing exercises or even the power of prayer. You will start to feel stronger, mind – body and soul.
Questions your assumptions – An opinion is like a nose – everyone has one! Don’t ever assume something, keep an open mind and remember to listen.
Recognize one thing you love about yourself – Are you a good friend? Or maybe you are a better listener? Appreciate everything that you love about yourself, especially when you’re feeling down.
Give yourself full and complete focus to whatever task you’re working on – Stop procrastinating! It’s easier to focus and complete the task at hand, so you can have time for yourself and feel accomplished.
Experience love (both giving and receiving) – Nothing feels better than being in love, or just the utter sheer joy of loving someone. Embrace every moment.
Let yourself feel sad without guilt, or wishing you felt better in the moment – Hey, we’re all allowed to cry. It’s human nature, and we have emotions for a reason. Sometimes having a good cry allows us to feel better and overcome our sadness.
Stop depriving yourself! – How can you experience life fully if you don’t allow yourself to enjoy every moment? It’s OK to let yourself experience something different now and then.
Get rid of things you don’t need/don’t use/don’t enjoy – Did you know that mindless clutter can cause mental and emotional stress? Spend a day cleaning your clutter, you’ll feel clearer headed and accomplished.
Think about the big picture – Don’t get down on yourself because whatever you’re trying to accomplish seems too hard or difficult – think of the big picture and the end result – let that be your motivation.
Learn to say no when you want to. (and yes, when you want to) – Overextend yourself to much? Learn how to say no! Don’t worry about hurting the other person’s feelings, by politely saying no and explaining that you unfortunately don’t have enough time to give full attention to the project, will give them understanding to your dilemma.
Practice empathy and compassion – How good of a friend are you? The best kind of friends listen to others who may be going through a rough time. Showing compassion and empathy is necessary to help your friend heal and give hope in their troubling situation.
Go on a happiness scavenger hunt – Remember the joy of finding treasures as a kid? Why not go as an adult? Grab a group of friends and go to a flea market. You’ll have a blast checking out all the old-school items and may even bring home some treasures of your own.
Pay attention to your values – After all, this defines the type of person you are. Find someone who shares your values and share your happiness for life.
